“They thought that the bullets would silence us, but they failed…Nothing changed in my life except this: weakness, fear, and hopelessness died. Strength, power, and courage was born.” -Malala
This book review is for you if you:
- Care about making the world a better place
- Are curious about the youngest Nobel Peace Prize winner ever
- Believe in strong female role-models for kids
- Want to know how I made my friend Tamika cry
Although Malala’s story is well known, reading this book to my loved ones was still a beautiful experience for us all of. My bestie Tamika curled up in front of the fire as I read to her over the phone—of course we both cried. We cried because courage is one of the most beautiful things in this world; we all need courage to face the darkness around us. My kids also loved it and were mesmerized by Malala’s life story. Her message feels significant and timely.
For those who care about teaching kids what’s right in the world, go out and get this book now! Malala’s story of courage is both shocking and empowering. To think that an eleven year old girl could stand up for girls education while under constant threat of terrorism shows me anything is possible. Malala is a guiding light through the darkness.
Raphaële Frier recounts Malala’s life and her journey as a children’s right activist who went on to become the youngest Nobel Peace Prize winner ever. The book beautifully illustrates Malala’s childhood, even the depiction of her attempted assassination on the bus she rode home from school.
I believe girls and women need strong female role models to motivate and encourage us to face inequalities in our lives. Malala reminds us to speak up for what we believe in no matter the cost. I connected with Malala’s strength in a whole new way through this children’s story.
With detailed time lines and many of Malala’s own words quoted, your child will learn about terrorism and what it means to stand up for what is right and good. Malala teaches us that we can all face adversity and rise to make a difference in the world.
Helps with: activism, equality, children’s rights, understanding feminism, girls’ education, peace, dreams, hope, standing up for what you believe, speaking up, respect, understanding terrorism, finding strength, power and courage in your life.
