Earth From Above for Young Readers

Nov 2, 2024

There is nothing more amazing than planet earth!

Wouldn’t you love to see the earth from way up high?

Yann Arthus-Bernard has photographed the world from a higher perspective capturing the earth from above. Using aerial photography (from a helicopter) Earth from Above for Young Readers showcases beautiful photographs of the world with the story that each photo tells written by Robert Burleigh.

The various regions of the world are highlighted to show stunning photographs of what they are known for such as cotton in Africa, vats of dye in Morocco, elephants in Botswana and penguins in Antarctica.

Each photograph allows us to learn about different cultures and different areas of the world. My favourite is on the cover of the Earth from Above adult version of this book which shows a mangrove forest with heart in New Caledonia (near Australia). But seeing a camel caravan (Niger), a volcano erupting (a French island near Madagascar), Rice fields (Indonesia), an Egyptian obelisk and the vibrant colours of a hot spring in Yellowstone (US), was also mind blowing.

The diversity of the world’s cultures and climate are examined through the photographs. The book is oversized with the photograph and accompanying text covering two pages.

Yann Arthus-Bernard’s photographs and the stories they tell encourage us to be stewards of the earth and reminds us of our human impact on nature.

While this is an older book its impact remains powerful. I am reminded in re-reading it of our universal connection and the beauty of our planet.

I love the pictures and the opportunity to see the world from a new and higher perspective and I think the young people in your life will love it too.

Helps with: interest in geography, photography, global diversity, nature, universal connection and appreciating diversity and beauty.
