Watch a rainbow grow this summer in your very own backyard!
In this classic board book for pre-schoolers, Caldecott Honor-winning author Lois Ehlert, teaches little ones about the colours of the rainbow through planting a garden.
Using textured cut paper collages, brilliant colours, and bold words, the story follows a mother and child who plant bulbs, seed, and seedlings in their backyard.
I love how the pages show each step of the planting (even the bulbs and seeds underground), and we can watch the seeds grow into beautiful flowers. At the end of the book, the flowers are labelled and divided into their colours on staggered cut away pages, to form a rainbow when the pages are shut.
This book helps pre-kindergarden to grade 2 children identify colours, new vocabulary, and learn to read. I love Lois Ehlert’s books for their vibrant illustrations and simple texts.
Nature lovers will enjoy this child friendly book that encourages kids to get outside and plant flowers.
One of my girls loves flowers and we read this book together many times when she was little.
I love the reminder that we can create beauty in our own backyards and that flowers can be picked all summer long!
Helps with: learning the colours in a rainbow, learning to read, planting and watching a garden grow, learning the names of colourful flowers, nature’s cycles, inspiration to start a garden.
