It’s not always easy to share a path (in life) with others.
On this wooded path, dog walkers, bicyclists, roller skaters, runners, and bird watchers are getting in each other’s way.
The Path is illustrated like a comic and graphic novel, with movement along the trail being captured through colourful panels on the page of all different types of people full of expression. Thought and speech bubbles tell us what each person is thinking and feeling as they negotiate space.
And suddenly all eyes are taking in “a beautiful black cloud” of birds in a murmuration.
We learn that birds fly together this way, so they can take care of each other.
This experience unites the people in the park in their appreciation for nature.
They start to engage with each other by sharing in their experiences. A man shares the owl he’s spotted with a child. The people in the story begin to support each other with encouragement and understanding.
It feels good to co-exist and create something powerful through community.
It’s much better than bumping into others frustrated and out of sorts.
This book will be enjoyed by children ages 4-8, and the adults who are reading to them.
It’s fun and interesting and demonstrates how nature unites us and how we can choose to live together peacefully in a chaotic world.
