The Year We Learned to Fly

Feb 16, 2022

We all have the power to face challenges in our lives.

A brother and sister who feel stuck and bored inside, have a lot to learn.

Their grandmother guides them on how to use their beautiful and brilliant minds. She says; “Lift your arms, close your eyes, take a deep breath, and believe in a thing.”

Using their imaginations’, they are lifted out of boredom and angry feelings.

They look up to the sky, and fly like their ancestors who came before them. Their grandmother shares how enslaved people escaped their hard lives by learning to fly away home.

She reminds us that we will always be free when we use our minds.

We can rise above our struggles and imagine how life can be.

Reading this beautifully illustrated book, I felt free. Free to imagine a life full of beautiful and peace-filled possibilities. This book is full of hope.

“Sometimes the first step towards change is closing our eyes, taking a breath, and imagining a different way.”

Helps with: using your imagination, power thinking, inner strength, manifestation, common humanity, honouring ancestry, how to not be bored, understanding how black people overcame slavery, Black History month.
