The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse

May 11, 2021

“What do you want to be when you grow up?” asks the mole.

“Kind” says the boy.

The boy greets the mole, who is feeling rather small. They meet a fox who needs rescuing. Along their travels they ask each other questions about life.

The answers are deep and profound.

Together they meet a gentle horse who shares their wisdom as they journey into the wild.

“Sometimes just getting up and carrying on is brave and magnificent”, said the horse.

We learn about presence, being kind (to yourself—start now), friendship, the importance of asking for help, forgiveness, and most importantly love.

We discover we are all enough as we are. That our purpose here on earth is to love and be loved.

“Sometimes all you hear about is the hate, but there is more love in this world than you could possibly imagine.”

This book is a beautiful work of art. Charlie Mackesy’s handwritten font and black and white drawings are captivating and every few pages turn into gorgeous coloured scenes. The whimsical drawings and words of wisdom are reminiscent of Winnie the Pooh.

Perfect for days when you are feeling down, overwhelmed or alone with life’s struggles, this book is for readers of all ages. It may be best read aloud to younger ones as the handwritten font could be difficult for some to read.

Once you read this book, you’ll want to gift it to all the special people in your life. It will fill your heart with hope, encouragement and a reminder of the power that love bring to us all.

Helps with: friendship, life’s lessons, being kind to yourself and others, not comparing yourself to others, learning to love one another, asking for help, showing and recognizing feelings, seeing the magic and beauty in the everyday.
